Center Director

Dr. Bruce McCurdy, Ed. D.

Dr. McCurdy has practiced as a licensed Psychological Examiner and Psychologist for over 28 years, specializing in individual and marital therapy. Difficult marriages that have at least one spouse who experiences childhood trauma issues, mood disorder difficulties, personality disorders, and/or addictive issues remain a special focus.

Since 2000 he has served as Director of The Counseling Center at Christ Community Church. In this role he oversees the staff of therapists, practicum and intern therapists who provide a wide range of professional counseling services congruent with the spirituality of historic Christian faith traditions. Dr. McCurdy has taught Professional Standards and Ethics to both Masters and Doctoral level therapists as an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Counseling Program of Trevecca Nazarene University since 2002. He also teaches at Lipscomb University and online at Bryan University. Dr. McCurdy has led several transformational workshops throughout the year. These are multimedia workshops that use his newly developed psycho-spiritual “map” of our souls that guides transformation into our truest loved and loving selves.

Bruce is lucky to be married to Debbie (aka Debbie Alan, founding host of News Channel 5’s “Talk of the Town”) and they continue to be the happy parents of 3 adult sons: Bruce (wife Michela), Kevin and Chris.

Associate Staff

Teresa Hardy, LMFT

Teresa graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1984 with a degree in elementary education, and her first teaching job was in Charlotte, North Carolina. She met her husband while in college. They have two adult children, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law. Having grown up in middle Tennessee, she was thrilled when her husband was transferred to Nashville in 1992. In 1996 she returned to the classroom as a teacher at New Hope Academy and later took a job in the Franklin Special School District. It was during her years as a classroom teacher that she saw how relational problems within a family have an effect on the whole family. She soon found that her passion was working with the heart issues within the family, so returned to school in 2003 working towards a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is now a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has worked as a private contractor in Christ Community Church’s Counseling Network since the spring of 2006. During these years, she has been honored to walk through trying times with couples and individuals. In addition to her work at Christ Community, she also serves as a staff therapist at a large church in the Brentwood area.

Arlin Troyer, LMFT

Arlin and his wife Cathy have four children: ranging in age from pre-teen through teenager. As an adoptive father, he is vitally interested in helping families with post-placement attachment challenges and to that end has completed the Trust Based Relational Intervention intensive with Dr. Karyn Purvis, and level one Theraplay training.

“Too often we live life in the fog of good health and favorable circumstances. But then, inevitably, something happens. Something difficult and hard to understand. Something that pushes to the forefront the need for wisdom. Is there hope? On whom can I depend? What am I living for? What matters? Will I live? How will I live? Seeking counsel is often the first step we take on our journey from confusion to song. It is one of my greatest joys to walk this journey with families, couples, and individuals (adults, teens and children) as they begin to unpack their inner world—gaining clarity, meaning, wholeness and freedom in the process.”

Certification, Training and Credentials:
Master Divinity
Master of Marriage and Family Therapy
EMDR Level 2

Advanced Counseling Certificate in Trauma-focused Narrative Therapy (Dr. Dan Allender)

Mariam Coaster, Ph.D., LMFT

Mariam joined the Christ Community Counseling staff in 2016 and is delighted to be a part of a team that is keen on integrating ministry with counseling practices. She is passionate about helping couples who feel emotionally disconnected from each other in their marriages -- finding themselves living in hurt and tension, not knowing how to deal with addictions, trauma, history of affairs, and struggling to communicate. In addition, Mariam enjoys working with women (married and single) who feel stuck with where they are at in life, and are experiencing anxiety, life transitions, depression, trauma, relationship strains, spiritual crisis and other life issues. She also does pre-engagement and pre-marital counseling.

Mariam also leads weekend marriage workshops based on curriculum from Created for Connection, by Dr. Sue Johnson and Kenneth Sanderfer. These marriage workshops offer couples the opportunity to take intentional time over the course of a weekend to reconnect and have meaningful conversations.

In her free time, Mariam enjoys spending time with her family, cooking up a new-found recipe, reading, walking, and getting together with friends. She is actively involved in a Nashville church plant where she serves in a variety of ministries.

Kyle Cruze, LMFT

Kyle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Tennessee.

His passion and expertise is with adolescent / teenage boys and their families who are struggling to navigate through the difficult and confusing aspects of this culture and life. Kyle also frequently works with adult men and married couples.

His early lessons in life and relationships came through the paradigm of athletics. Kyle was blessed with the opportunity to play basketball all four years he was in college. It was through those experiences on and off the court that much of his curiosity and interest in people and their stories began.

Prior to moving into full time private practice, Kyle worked at a residential treatment center with adolescent boys and their families who were struggling with substance abuse. During these years, Kyle also frequently spoke at national conferences, local schools, and parent groups. One of Kyle’s focuses continues to be the ever changing landscape of teenage substance abuse and the unique treatment it requires.

Kyle was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. It was there that he met his wife Kristen who is a Franklin native. Together they have two boys and a girl. When he’s not working Kyle enjoys woodworking, reading, and spending time with his family (black lab Sampson included).
